The background to the examples
The people in the examples are not real.
You can see the location of the toll zones here.
The examples are based on calculations of the number of minutes or kilometres in the different charging zones on trips from one place to another in Denmark. These are estimates that may vary slightly as trips are driven. The prices are rounded off.
A purpose of the trial was to test different charging systems. That is, whether the participants paid toll per kilometre or per or tested a higher payment rate. The amount of toll depended on which charging system the participants tested and where and when they drove.
Charges per kilometre
Charges per kilometre in three zones - examples
Ole drove from Aarhus City Hall to Horsens City Hall and tested toll per kilometre for all three zones on the way there.
His trip cost approximately DKK 41.5 during rush hour and DKK 25.5 outside rush hour.

Charges per kilometre in suburb and city - examples
Ole took the same trip and only tested charges in the suburbs and city centre. The trip would therefore cost approximately:
- DKK 7 in rush hour
- DKK 2.5 outside rush hour
Charges per kilometre in the city - examples
If Ole only tested toll in the city centre zone, the same trip would cost approximately:
- DKK 3 in rush hour
- DKK 1 outside rush hour
Toll per minute
Charges per minute in three zones - examples
Anne traveled from Aarhus City Hall to Horsens City Hall and tested toll per minute for all three zones on the way there.
She didn't pay per minute in the national zone but paid per minute in the city centre and suburbs.
The trip would cost approximately DKK 15 during rush hour and DKK 5 outside rush hour.
Charges per minute in the city centre - examples
If Anne only tested charges in the city centre zone, the same trip would cost approximately:
- DKK 9 in rush hour
- DKK 3 outside rush hour
