The background to the examples
The people in the examples are not real.
You can see the location of the toll zones here.
The examples are based on calculations of the number of minutes or kilometres in the different toll zones on trips from one place to another in Denmark. These are estimates that may vary slightly as trips are driven. The prices are rounded off.
A purpose of the trial was to test different toll models. That is, whether the trial participants paid charge per kilometre or per minute in one or more toll zones or tested a higher rate. The amount of the charge depended on which toll system the trial participants tested and where and when they drove.
Road charges per kilometre
Road charge per kilometre in one zone - example
Oliver drove from Nykøbing Falster Station to Kolding City Hall Square and tested charge per kilometre for driving in the national zone on the way there.
His trip cost approximately DKK 28 during rush hour and DKK 18.5 outside rush hour.
Road charges per minute
Road charge per minute in one zone - example
If Oliver took the same trip but instead tested charge per minute, he would pay DKK 0 both during and outside rush hour.
He would not pay anything per minute in the national zone.
